EUC FACTS AND FIGURES The 2023 European Universities Championships was another great season for EUSA, celebrated with a record number of participants that took part in EUSA Championship season, covering both summer and winter editions. In total, 22 different sporting competitions made up the 2023 Championship program, which took place at 16 different events in 15 host cities in 10 different countries around Europe. The season started with EUSA Football kicking off on 25th of June in Tirana, Albania, making it to its end in very early July.
The month of July saw a total of 10 different events taking place across Europe, followed by two others in August, two more in September and finishing with EUSA Winter Championships, bringing the season to a close over in the middle of December. EUSA Championship program for 2023, in the summer season part, saw the following sports: Football, Handball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Water Polo, 3x3 Basketball, Volleyball, Futsal, Combat Sports (Judo, Kickboxing, Karate and Taekwondo), Basketball, Orienteering, Rowing, Rugby 7s and Beach Sports (Beach Volleyball and Beach Handball) that were merged together for the first time. The official end was done by EUSA Winter Championships, seeing competition in Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Snow Volleyball. Three cities hosted a European Universities Championship for the first time: Tirana in Albania, where EUSA Football took place, Granda in Spain, the host of EUSA Tennis 2023 and Val di Zoldo in Italy, the host of the inaugural EUSA Winter Championships. The two oldest sports on EUSA Championships program, Basketball and Volleyball, were hosted for the 16th time in this setting, following their first installment, being the first two sports ever organized by EUSA in 2001. This year, Basketball even went back to the first ever host city, the city of Aveiro in Portugal. In total, 5570 participants from 524 universities from 40 countries participated in the 2023 season, making it the largest edition of the Championships in EUSA history, following the previous total of 5242 participants in 2019. This year, EUSA Rowing topped the highest attendance list with a total of 524 participants, followed by EUSA Football with 519 participants. The third most attended event, with 47
